Data migration is a collaborative effort and should begin early in your onboarding process.  Since you know your data and we know the technology, we will separate the steps outlined below so that the data is transferred correctly and efficiently.  You and your Success Manager will work together to determine who will be responsible for which steps of this process.

Expect that a migration will likely take anywhere from one week to one month, depending on the complexity of your data.

Step 1 - Retrieve Data from External Database

To retrieve this data, you might get in touch with your IT specialist in-house, or the database vendor who manages your old data system.

Step 2 - Transfer Data to Excel Files

Transfer all data from the external database into the Excel templates provided by your Customer Success Manager.  Templates provided will reflect the batches that are required to migrate your data and an order of priority will also be determined based on your timeline and the workflow needed as you onboard.

Step 3 - Clean Data

Once data is in the proper format, all response options need to match fields in Vertical Change, all multi-select fields must be shown as separate columns, and any extraneous characters removed.  See this article for further description and guidance.  If you need any Excel tips and tricks to clean your data quickly, let us know!  We can teach you.

Step 4 - Import

Your Customer Success Manager will do the import for you.  If you are interested in learning how to do imports yourself, please let us know and we’ll be happy to train you!  Here are some articles that can walk you through the process in the meantime.
