Run an Import

Set up a trial and final import for data transmission

The Importer gives you the option to run two different types of imports.  A test, and a final.  It’s important to run a test before doing a final run.  Running a test will give the importer the opportunity to read a few lines of data instead of the whole data set, and give you feedback of whether or not it was successful or not, and why.  If it is successful, you are ready for a final import. If it fails, you haven’t imported a bunch of bad data that now needs to be reverted!

To run an import, press the “play” icon to the right of the import listing, in the Actions column.

This will bring up the dialog to select whether you want a Trial or a Final import.  If you select Trial, type the number of rows you’d like the Importer to test. If you leave the number of rows blank, it will by default run all rows up to 999 rows.

Click Run Import.

Navigate back to the Imports tab to view the status of the import.

You will know if it’s complete when you see the status change from "started" to either “success” or “failure” in the Imports listing.

If it says “success”, you can run the import again by clicking on the "play" icon, but this time select Final import.  If that import is successful, your next step will be to spot check some of the data you imported to be sure everything transmitted properly.

If it did, you are in luck!  Your import was a success!

If it says “failure”, click on the Logs tab and download the log related to your recent import.  The log is where you will see computer jargon related to the job of importing and matching data.

If you are unable to read the log, send it to your contact at VerticalChange and we will help you decipher what went wrong and how to fix it.
